Today was a special holiday called Sant Jordi's Day. This day is similar to our Valentine's Day. April 23rd has been dedticated to celebrate the victory of Sant Jordi over the dragon he slayed to free the princess 15 centuries ago. Because this was an act of love, people in Spain celebrate by giving roses to women and books to men. On the day of Sant Jordi there are book and rose sellers/booths all around the city for people to buy for their loved ones. Today at school their was a rose booth set up in front of the school. My host father bought me a rose!
After school we went into the city to walk around and shop for books. There were thousands of people and many famous authors to sign people's books. Even though none of the books were in English and I didn't buy any, it was a very neat experience!
During school the students had special assemblies to attend to celebrate Sant Jordi. One of the assemblies was a play put on by older students to remake the slaying of the dragon!
